About our bid

dotDK is pleased to provide the winning proposal made to the IT og Telestyrelsen on April 1, 2008 in accordance with the Tender process. Read our proposal here

dotDK ‘s proposal to operate the .dk Internet domain will promote the dynamic and high quality growth of the Danish Internet community.

It will do so because it empowers and harnesses the Danish Internet community to achieve the benefits of self-regulation and it will upgrade the technology and operations to global standards of availability, efficiency and security. In addition, dotDK proposes to enhance transparency, reinvigorate links to the international Internet community and establish a framework for continuous improvement and innovation.

dotDK proposes to contract Afilias Limited, the second largest provider of domain name registry services in the world, to provide the technology to power .dk in Denmark. Afilias’ technology has been proven to support some of the largest Internet domains in existence (such as .info and .org), and has been proven sable and reliable even in the face of heavy loads and security threats.

Key benefits
If selected, dotDK will bring:

  • A more efficient registry system that reduces manual processes, eliminates excess fees (such as the current DKK500 activation fee), and operates on global standards and the world-class technology already powering some of the world’s largest domains today.
  • Enhanced availability of the .dk domain that enables worldwide resolution within 5 minutes of registration and brings the .dk domain to a network of over 900 registrars and thousands of resellers worldwide.
  • Enhanced security for the .dk domain, relying on Afilias’ technology which provides a multi-layer approach to protect .dk with diversity in process, geography, hardware, software, and firmware to eliminate single points of failure.
  • A transparent registry with increased input mechanisms for the Danish Internet community to provide advice, insight and direction on important policy and administrative issues.
  • Coordination with the global Internet community including global organizations like ICANN and its ccNSO (which handles ccTLD issues), and regional organizations like CENTR and other Nordic ccTLDs.
  • Background
On June 26th the National IT and Telecom Agency of Denmark appointed dotDK to be the next administrator of the Danish top level domain.
